It's inexhaustible prejudices like this that film director Helmut Schulzeck has to cope with in his auto-biographical documentary "So Close And Yet So Far". This documentary deals mainly with the relationship of Helmut and his Kenyan father-in-law Papa Wangechi. Papa Wangechi's family lives in the Kenyan Highlands. Helmut and his wife Wangechi go to visit them for a few weeks every year. And for this occasion Papa and his family have numerous material wishes or rather needs. Helmut instead wants to belong to them to all of them. Helmut married his wife Wangechi together with four children from her first marriage plus her extended family in Kenya. He did this without asking her family for permission. By doing so Helmut acted against customary law and has therefore established a case which is doomed to last for years.
